Leicester City have confirmed the signing of experienced forward Rachel Williams from Manchester United on an 18 month contract. The deal was announced by the club earlier this evening, with WSL Full Time informed through an official statement from the Foxes.

The 38 year old is returning to familiar surroundings, having begun her football journey at Leicester City 26 years ago. Williams progressed through the club’s youth system and made her senior breakthrough there, and this move marks her third spell with her hometown side.

She brings a huge amount of experience at Barclays Women’s Super League level, having spent 15 seasons in the top flight with clubs including Birmingham City, Chelsea, Notts County, Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United. Williams has also represented both England and Great Britain during her international career.

Speaking after completing her return, Williams said she had always hoped to come back to Leicester. She explained that the club holds a special place for her as her hometown team and believes she still has plenty to contribute on the pitch.

Williams could make her latest Leicester City debut this weekend, with the Foxes facing Tottenham Hotspur in the fourth round of the Adobe Women’s FA Cup on Sunday.
