Harry Winks is emerging as the most likely Leicester City player to depart next following Wout Faes’ move to AS Monaco, according to a report from LeicestershireLive.
The Foxes are expected to part ways with the 29-year-old before the January transfer window closes. Leicester have until the deadline on Monday 2 February to complete any remaining transfer business, and Winks is now viewed as a prime candidate to leave.
Winks has been left out of the picture at the King Power Stadium in recent weeks and has not featured since early December. With his contract set to expire at the end of the season, he is currently on course to become a free agent in the summer.
LeicestershireLive suggest he is now at the front of the queue to exit after Faes’ departure. This season, Winks has made 18 appearances under Marti Cifuentes, including 17 in the Championship, contributing one goal and two assists.
Leicester, who dropped out of the Premier League last year after finishing in the bottom three alongside Ipswich Town and Southampton, currently sit 12th in the Championship table after 26 matches.
From the club’s perspective, moving Winks on sooner rather than later would make sense. Allowing him to run down his contract risks losing him for nothing, whereas a January exit would at least bring in a fee and ease pressure on the wage bill. Leicester also have several alternatives in midfield, with players such as Jordan James, Oliver Skipp and Hamza Choudhury available.
The former England international joined Leicester in 2023 and has gone on to make 111 appearances for the club, scoring four goals. He played a key role in their promotion back to the Premier League in 2024 under former manager Enzo Maresca.
Winks came through the ranks at Tottenham Hotspur and established himself in their senior side, while also spending time on loan at Sampdoria during his Spurs career.
Leicester will now look to secure a move for Winks before the window shuts as they continue to push for a place in the play-offs. They currently trail sixth-placed Watford by four points. The midfielder was linked with a switch to Valencia last summer, but that interest did not develop and he remained in England.
Attention now turns back to on-field matters, with Leicester returning to league action this weekend away at Coventry City at the CBS Arena.
