However, former player Peter Grant recently proposed a transfer idea that could come with a substantial price tag, particularly in terms of wages. Grant suggested the intriguing possibility of pursuing David De Gea, the former Manchester United goalkeeper now a free agent, during a live appearance on The Go Radio Football Show.
Grant pondered, “I’ve got to put this out there. David de Gea, training in non-league in England. Could a club like Celtic with European football excite him? It may cost a pretty penny, but big European nights at Celtic Park could lure him back.”
While the idea of De Gea at Celtic would undoubtedly be a high-profile move, the financial implications make it an unlikely prospect. De Gea, who amassed a remarkable record during his time at Manchester United, reportedly commanded a weekly salary of £375,000, a figure well beyond Celtic’s financial capabilities.
Given the impracticality of such a signing, Celtic will likely explore other options to fill the void left by Joe Hart.
