Stephen McGowan has shared stories on what he was hearing about Wilfried Nancy and Celtic players from the first day of the Frenchman’s tenure.
Celtic sacked Wilfried Nancy after just 33 days in charge as the former Columbus Crew boss struggled to get results in Glasgow.
Nancy’s record at Celtic was the worst-ever of any Hoops boss after he oversaw six defeats in his only eight fixtures in his short tenure in Paradise.
Celtic lost domestically against Hearts, Dundee United, St Mirren and Motherwell, but it was the Bhoys’ defeat to Rangers that was the final nail in the Frenchman’s coffin.
But it seems Nancy was doomed from the beginning after journalist Stephen McGowan shares ‘stories’ he heard about the ex-Celtic boss ‘from day one’.
Celtic players were ‘discontented’ from the beginning of Wilfried Nancy’s reign
The infamous video of Wilfried Nancy meeting Celtic legend James Forrest seemed to be the beginning of the end for the Frenchman.
Nancy didn’t appear to know who Forrest was, and while this is not the reason for the players being unhappy, it appears that what happened after it didn’t leave the Celtic first team impressed.
McGowan said on PLZ Soccer, “Just watching Premier Sports, I think it was on, and the post-match interviews, and you are watching [Jens Berthel] Askou and simplicity and just so coherent in everything he said in that interview.
“How he explained how he tactically exploited Celtic’s weakness.
“And then Nancy comes on and Wilfried Nancy, English is his second language, it’s difficult for him, but at no point were you particularly thinking, ‘Oh yeah, that’s a good point. He’s really articulated what he’s trying to get over there’.
“There was just a simplicity to what Askou does, which you could imagine players could tap into.
“Because from day one, really the early days of Wilfried Nancy, you were hearing stories from Lennoxtown of discontent of players who just weren’t having it at all.
“And that was virtually from day one or day two, not a good sign.”
