Derek McInnes cut a furious figure on the Tynecastle touchline after Hearts conceded an early opener against Celtic.

The Hearts manager was left seething following a remark from the Celtic bench moments after Benjamin Nygren curled in a superb free kick inside the opening four minutes in Gorgie. The comment from the visitors’ technical area clearly struck a nerve, prompting an immediate reaction.

McInnes stormed towards the Celtic dug-out to confront the issue, only to be pulled away as fourth official Calum Scott stepped in to defuse the situation. As Nygren and his team-mates celebrated in front of their bench, images showed the Hearts boss angrily pointing towards a member of Martin O’Neill’s backroom staff, with Shaun Maloney attempting to calm things down.

Nygren’s early strike gave the champions a crucial lift as they looked to reduce the gap at the top of the Scottish Premiership to three points.
