Leicester City’s rising star, Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, took a playful jab at Leeds United after their defeat to Queens Park Rangers on Friday night.
Dewsbury-Hall couldn’t resist a bit of banter as Leicester clinched their promotion to the Premier League with a decisive 4-0 victory over Daniel Farke’s squad in their previous match. The Foxes now sit comfortably four points ahead of Leeds in the league standings, with only one game left for the Whites.
The intense rivalry between the two clubs has been the highlight of the 2023/24 season, as they both aimed for a swift return to the top tier of English football. Despite Leeds winning all their encounters this season, including a 3-1 win at Elland Road in their latest face-off, Dewsbury-Hall seized the opportunity to reference Leeds forward Georginio Rutter’s previous comments about his team being the best.
After Leeds suffered the heavy defeat that secured Leicester’s promotion, Dewsbury-Hall shared a snippet of Rutter’s interview on social media, adding a pensive emoji for good measure. The official Leicester City account also playfully reacted to the situation by posting, “I predict a riot,” a nod to the Kaiser Chiefs’ song that was played after Leicester’s defeat to Farke’s team in February.
Leeds now cling to the second automatic promotion spot in the Championship and are set to take on Southampton in their final match of the season. Ipswich Town closely trail in third place, tied on points with Leeds and holding a game in hand over them.
