‘Final Countdown’ – Pundit responds to Fabrizio Romano revelation as yet another Tottenham departure looms

January 15, 2024

Star player’s tenure at Tottenham appears to be drawing to a close, and according to Paul Robinson, the left-back won’t find a spot in Ange Postecoglou’s squad following his premature return from a loan spell at Manchester United.

Fabrizio Romano, through X, recently reported on January 14 that Brentford has joined the list of clubs eyeing the Spaniard for a potential January transfer, with his departure anticipated this month.

Sky Sports pundit Robinson concurs that Reguilon’s time at Spurs is over, acknowledging that manager Postecoglou faces challenges managing departures until he secures replacements. With Eric Dier already leaving for Bayern Munich and Djed Spence loaned to Genoa in the Radu Dragusin deal, Robinson senses a clear path for Reguilon’s exit.

Despite being the primary left-back for Tottenham for two years, Reguilon has been absent from the club for a season and a half, with occasional appearances during his loan spells at Atletico Madrid and Old Trafford marking his last two campaigns.

With a year remaining on his contract with Spurs, Reguilon, wherever he lands this month, must showcase his skills to attract permanent transfer interest in the summer.

Speaking exclusively to Tottenham News, Robinson expressed his view, stating, “I don’t think he’ll come back to Spurs, I don’t think he’ll fit into the squad unless they’re really that threadbare with injuries and he can’t get players through the door.”

Robinson emphasized the significance of January for many Spurs players in determining their futures, suggesting that several exits might be on the horizon, depending on the club’s arrivals. In Reguilon’s case, it seems his time at Tottenham is nearing its end.
