West Ham Drops Decision on Linked Star’s Departure, European Club Set to Launch New Offer – Report

January 18, 2024

According to journalist Jack Rosser, West Ham is reportedly willing to entertain the prospect of Said Benrahma departing in the January transfer window. The club is purportedly seeking a transfer fee exceeding £20 million for the Algerian international, but they are also open to considering a loan move that includes an obligation-to-buy clause.

Rosser asserts that French club Marseille is expected to table a second offer for the 28-year-old winger, following the rejection of an initial bid by the Hammers. This initial proposal involved a loan arrangement with potential for a permanent transfer in the summer. The timing of these developments coincides with Benrahma’s sending off in the 1-0 FA Cup defeat to Bristol City on January 16.

Indications of Discontent

The journalist suggests that Benrahma’s conduct during the recent loss against Bristol City has conveyed a lack of commitment to West Ham. While acknowledging the player’s occasional strong performances since his arrival from Brentford in 2020, it is pointed out that he has at times been inconsistent and ineffective during crucial moments. This lack of consistency seems to have left manager David Moyes feeling exasperated with the player.

Considering the reported stance of West Ham, it appears improbable that they would be able to command a fee surpassing £20 million for Benrahma during the January transfer window. However, given the possibility of a loan agreement with an option for a permanent transfer along with the financial incentive, it is suggested that parting ways with Benrahma at this juncture could be a viable option for the club.

While acknowledging that Benrahma’s potential departure would leave the team short on options in the left-hand side of the attack, the article intimates that the club may not suffer significantly given the player’s performances at the London Stadium this season. This stance reflects a willingness to prioritize the club’s overall interests over retaining the player, should a suitable offer materialize.
