Former Light Blues utility player Lee McCulloch has suggested that both Celtic and Rangers could face stumbling blocks in their pursuit of the Scottish Premiership title before their crucial meeting on May 12. McCulloch points out that teams like Dundee, Heart of Midlothian, Kilmarnock, and St Mirren have the potential to upset the two Glasgow rivals.

Although Celtic currently hold a three-point lead over Rangers in the league table, McCulloch’s earlier prediction that neither team would drop points, except in their upcoming clash, seems to be wavering. Observing their recent performances, he notes a hint of vulnerability from both sides.

The Scottish Cup semi-finals saw league leaders Celtic struggle to beat Aberdeen, needing penalties to secure a win after a tough match. Similarly, Rangers’ victory over Hearts showcased a team that didn’t quite hit their peak form.

Reflecting on these recent events, McCulloch now believes that there is a chance for either Celtic or Rangers to drop points before the end of the season. While he had initially thought the title race would solely come down to the Old Firm clash, the former player now acknowledges the nerves creeping in and the potential for slip-ups in the upcoming fixtures.

“It could still happen this season,” McCulloch commented when discussing the possibility of the title race going down to the wire. “Last week’s performances from both teams in the cup showed some signs of vulnerability. I’m revising my earlier stance and considering the likelihood of points being dropped outside the Old Firm encounter. Despite this, I remain convinced that the ultimate decider will be the Old Firm game.”
