Leeds United climbed to third in the Premier League table following a dominant 4-1 victory over Newcastle United at Elland Road. While striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin put in a phenomenal performance, he found himself playfully frustrated over a disputed goal attribution.

The Goal Controversy

Calvert-Lewin thought he had secured Leeds’ second goal of the match with a powerful header from James Justin’s cross. However, the Premier League later credited the strike to wing-back Jayden Bogle after determining that the ball clipped him on its way in.

Addressing the situation on social media, Calvert-Lewin posted a photo alongside Bogle and jokingly criticized the ruling. He shared that Bogle privately claimed the ball never even touched him, prompting the striker to ask the Premier League how he could appeal the “scandalous” decision.

Match Overview

The Whites controlled the fixture from start to finish, completely overwhelming Newcastle on home turf:

  • First Goal: Ao Tanaka opened the scoring after his shot deflected off Sean Steur and Lewis Miley to wrong-foot the goalkeeper.
  • Third Goal: Calvert-Lewin earned a deserved goal right before halftime by outmaneuvering Sven Botman and slotting the ball home.
  • Fourth Goal: Noah Okafor sealed the win in the second half following a dangerous long throw-in from Ethan Ampadu.

High Praise From Daniel Farke

Leeds manager Daniel Farke was quick to praise Calvert-Lewin’s physical dominance and leadership on the pitch after he heavily troubled central defenders Botman and Malick Thiaw.

Speaking to BBC Sport, Farke highlighted the striker’s confidence, stellar fitness levels, and overall impact on the team, calling him one of the standout forwards in the division.
