Bournemouth are struggling to retain head coach Andoni Iraola as Athletic Club intensifies its pursuit of the Spaniard. His contract expires this summer and he’s also attracting serious interest from Premier League rivals Tottenham Hotspur and Crystal Palace after a successful three-season spell at Cherries.

Iraola leads the race for Athletic’s managerial position.

At San Mamés, Iraola has secured the top spot on the shortlist. The Basque side sees him as the ideal successor to Ernesto Valverde, who is expected to step down at the end of the current season. Consequently, Athletic is swiftly pursuing a replacement.

Iraola’s connection to the club runs deep. During his playing days, he made over 500 appearances. This emotional bond has positioned Athletic as the frontrunner to attract him away from the Vitality Stadium when his contract expires in June.

Iraola addresses exit rumours

Following Bournemouth’s recent 2-2 draw with Manchester United, the Spaniard swiftly addressed the growing speculation about his future and the links to his former employers.

“It’s nothing to do with me,” Iraola told reporters. While he acknowledges the supporter-driven speculation due to his club ties, he firmly denies any impact on his situation. He’s reiterated his happiness at the club and the strong relationship he shares with them. While he acknowledges the need for a decision, he’s familiar with such situations and it’s not entirely new to him.

Premier League interest in Iraola intensifies.

Despite the lure of a return to Spain, Iraola remains a highly sought-after manager in English football. The Daily Mail reports that both Tottenham and Palace are considering him as a potential summer signing to rejuvenate their leadership.

His work at Bournemouth has transformed the club into a force capable of challenging for European qualification. This tactical evolution has significantly boosted his reputation among Premier League clubs complicating Bournemouth’s hopes of a straightforward renewal.
