Celtic have launched an approach to land a Danish striker who humiliated Manchester City just a week ago, and Rangers and Hearts will be hoping a deal does not go through.
Scotland is in the middle of a proper title battle right now, and Hearts’ involvement is threatening to disrupt the Old Firm stranglehold. The last time a side outside Celtic or Rangers lifted the Scottish crown was back in 1985, when Sir Alex Ferguson was in charge of Aberdeen.
All three clubs chasing the title have already added reinforcements during the winter transfer window, but with so much on the line, none of them appear finished in the market.
As reported by Sky Sports News, Martin O’Neill’s Celtic are keen on securing a signing that could prove decisive in the championship race.
That pursuit has led the club to Norwegian side Bodo/Glimt and their first-choice striker, Kasper Hogh.
The 25-year-old Dane burst onto the European scene last season, scoring seven goals as Bodo/Glimt surged to the Europa League semi-finals before eventually losing out to winners Tottenham.
Hogh has continued to impress on the continental stage this campaign, going one step further last week when his two goals powered Bodo/Glimt to a stunning 3-1 victory over Manchester City.
Championship outfit Norwich City are also exploring a potential move for Hogh, but according to Sky Sports reporter Anthony Joseph, Celtic are firmly in contention as well.
Joseph wrote: “Celtic have made an enquiry for Bodo/Glimt striker Kasper Hogh but face competition from a number of clubs across Europe.
“It’s understood the 25-year-old remains a target for Norwich City, who continue to monitor his situation.
Sky Sports News has been told that Hogh’s future will be decided later this week, after their crucial Champions League clash with Atletico Madrid.
“Hogh scored twice last week in Bodo/Glimt’s 3-1 Champions League win over Manchester City.
“Celtic ideally want to bring in another striker in this window, after signing Tomas Cvancara from Borussia Monchengladbach on loan. But bringing in a centre-back and right winger is the main priority for the Scottish champions before the end of this window.
“Norwich are in the market for a forward, regardless of what happens with Josh Sargent.
“The USA international has been removed from the first team, as he pushes for a transfer to Toronto FC.
A right-footed forward, Hogh’s overall tally for Bodo/Glimt stands at 42 goals and 12 assists from 82 appearances.
