The Hoops are among the most decorated teams in global football, and their international support makes them an appealing option in terms of commercial income.
Even so, commentators south of the border continue to recycle the same tired argument that Celtic and Rangers wouldn’t cope in the Championship, never mind the top division.
Ben Foster was the most recent to make the claim on his Fozcast podcast, stating that both clubs would “get relegated straightaway” if they joined the English pyramid.

It is important to highlight that Foster is not the only personality to have shared this opinion previously, and he even acknowledged that Celtic and Rangers would never accept an invitation to move into the English leagues.
At least that part is accurate.
What it highlights is yet another worn-out narrative that Celtic and Rangers lack the quality to compete.
Both teams feature in the top two European competitions every season, have secured more silverware than most of the English Football League combined and possess fanbases so vast that they even rival Premier League sides.
Those who criticise the standard of the Scottish Premiership might want to pause and examine the standings. Neither of the Glasgow outfits currently sit at the summit, despite claims that it is a predictable duopoly.
Both clubs will never walk away from their heritage in Scotland, particularly when it is the only environment they have ever known. It is not comparable to a Swansea City or Cardiff City scenario, and it never will be.
Celtic and Rangers would be two of the biggest clubs in England
Many people overlook one crucial factor: the financial disparity.
The club that ends the Premier League season in last place (20th) still receives approximately 22 times more than the side that wins the Scottish Premiership.
Provide Celtic or Rangers with just one campaign in the top division and the revenue generated from that alone would reshape everything.
They have an attraction comparable to the big six and would be capable of luring some of the biggest stars in world football far quicker than many expect.
This unrealistic discussion needs to end and people need to accept that both clubs are content with their current situation.
