Former Celtic Figure Peter Grant Backs Rangers for Title Glory
Former Celtic player and coach Peter Grant has predicted Rangers will win the Scottish Premiership title, despite currently trailing league leaders Hearts by three points.
Speaking on the GO Radio Football Show, Grant acknowledged that Hearts hold the advantage in terms of league position but believes Rangers’ ability to handle pressure will prove decisive. “I’d rather be in Hearts’ position, but I just think Rangers for me [will win the title],” he said. “I just think Rangers have been able to handle the criticism, they have been able to handle the pressure as the season as it has gone along. Hearts, it’s going to be interesting to see when Rangers play before them at any time and put on that little bit of extra pressure. People say it doesn’t count, please believe me it counts, there is absolutely no doubt.”
The prediction comes after Rangers leapfrogged Celtic into second place following the champions’ 2-0 defeat at Dundee United, their eighth league loss of the campaign.
Meanwhile, another former Celtic striker, Frank McAvennie, has delivered a scathing assessment of the Parkhead club’s performance at Tannadice. The 66 year old, who was in Glasgow supporting a campaign for Jim Craig to receive a statue, expressed disgust at what he witnessed.
“If Celtic are going to lose the title, they can’t lose it like they did last week,” McAvennie stated. “I was disgusted by the way the players just rolled over and got their bellies rubbed. It was terrible. I know the pitch was terrible, but both teams had to play on it. That’s the worst I’ve seen it at Tannadice, which is normally quite good. There was no fight, and they just accepted it.”
The comments reflect growing concern among Celtic supporters as the club sits five points adrift of Hearts with seven matches remaining, their title defence hanging by a thread.
