Celtic goalkeeper Viljami Sinisalo has shared some candid insights into how managerial shifts at the club temporarily derailed his original plans for regular playing time.

Since joining the squad in 224, the Finnish international has spent most of his time serving as the backup to veteran Kasper Schmeichel. However, a severe shoulder injury to the Danish star has recently thrust the 24-year-old straight into the spotlight as manager Martin O’Neill’s undisputed first choice in goal.

Reflecting on his journey so far, Sinisalo explained that the club initially had a clear pathway mapped out to give him more first-team exposure. While things started off well during the League Cup, changes in the managerial dugout ultimately forced those ambitions to be put on hold. He noted that navigating a season with different managers can be incredibly difficult, often leaving a young goalkeeper feeling a bit unfortunate in the moment.

Despite these unpredictable setbacks, Sinisalo maintained a remarkably positive attitude. He acknowledged that plans inevitably change when new leadership steps in. Instead of getting frustrated, he chose to keep his head down and work exceptionally hard behind the scenes. Knowing that a player only gets one shot at a professional career, he was determined not to waste a single day so he could be fully prepared when his moment finally arrived.

Sinisalo described football as an unpredictable business where injuries and selection choices can drastically alter a player’s trajectory in a matter of days. Because he cannot control those external factors, he focuses entirely on what he can control: giving his absolute best out on the pitch. As he looks forward to his upcoming matches, his main goal is to keep improving and truly prove his worth to the supporters.
