Hugh Keevins has doubled down on his assertion that Celtic FC have absolutely no chance of securing the league title this season.
This comes even after the Hoops have already proven him wrong several times during the campaign, with Keevins incorrectly predicting defeats for them against Heart of Midlothian FC and Rangers FC.
Following Celtic’s narrow 1-0 victory over St Mirren FC heading into the split, the experienced journalist and radio pundit has once again reinforced a viewpoint that appears questionable—even if Martin O’Neill’s former side ultimately fall short in the title race.
When a pundit consistently opposes one club—despite the Scottish Premiership’s top three all showing inconsistencies—it’s hardly surprising that such opinions attract criticism and mockery.
Hugh Keevins claims ‘zero percent’ chance of Celtic winning title
Speaking on Clyde Superscoreboard, Keevins said: “I don’t believe Celtic can win the title because of the lack of a goalscorer.
“I do believe that when Rangers and Hearts go to Celtic Park, there’s more chance of them winning the matches because of Celtic’s utter lack of a striker.
If I had a choice tomorrow between Yousssef Chermiti and Tomas Cvancara, I would take Chermiti.
“They are both the same, in that they require a lot of chances to score. But if Tomas Cvancara is your best chance of winning the league, you’ve had it.
“I know that Gordon Dalziel is going to go on about Benjamin Nygren, but he didn’t score today, he didn’t score last week…”
Host Andrew McLean then stepped in to point out that Benjamin Nygren is still the league’s second-highest scorer.
When asked what probability he would assign to Celtic lifting the trophy, Keevins responded: “I’m still on zero, yeah.
“The essence of this programme is personal opinion. You can berate, you can gang up, you can do whatever you like.
“I said zero, I stand by zero.
Hugh Keevins’ poor Celtic predictions
During both of Celtic’s visits to Ibrox in March, Keevins forecast defeats—and was proven wrong each time. Similarly, he backed losses for them in both of their trips to Tynecastle this season, getting only one of those calls right.
By now, the pattern of his predictions has turned into a bit of a running joke among listeners.
Keevins also tipped Motherwell FC to overcome Celtic during their recent clash in Glasgow—another call that didn’t go his way.
Celtic now have a prime chance to prove him wrong yet again and deliver one of the most emphatic rebuttals to his stance.
