Liam Scales gave an awkward interview to TNT Sports after playing his part in Celtic’s disappointing 4-1 defeat to Stuttgart. The men from Glasgow’s east end were well below par during the Europa League play-off stage clash as they were thumped at home by the Bundesliga side.

Scales wasn’t one of the worst offenders on the night but it wasn’t his best performance either, and he was the one to front up for the broadcaster post-match. What followed was an awkward interview as the reporter probed for answers.

“It was a tough game but we’ll go again next week,” the Republic of Ireland defender answered in snappy responses. “They’re a good side and they took their chances. I think we could have had a couple more as well. We were unfortunate with the scoreline but the performance wasn’t there. We’re always disappointed when we concede goals. It’s definitely not going to derail our season.”

The interview continued with Scales providing brief answers, clearly uncomfortable with the spotlight. “We’ll just have to move on and focus on the next game,” he said when asked about the team’s next steps. “Hibernian next, yeah. We’ll be looking to get back to winning ways.”

The awkwardness was palpable as Scales struggled to provide more than just short responses, eager to get away from the cameras.
