Chris Sutton Predicts Celtic Title Triumph Following Green Brigade Return
Former Celtic striker Chris Sutton has issued a bold prediction that the champions will secure their fifth consecutive Scottish Premiership title, coinciding with the lifting of the Green Brigade’s suspension.
The outspoken pundit, who played for Martin O’Neill’s side between 2000 and 2006, took to social media platform X to declare: “The Green Brigade are back in to cheer Celtic to the title…” The post came shortly after Celtic announced the Ultras group would return for Saturday’s fixture against St Mirren after a five-month absence.
The suspension, imposed in November, was lifted following a March 27 meeting of Glasgow City Council’s Safety Advisory Group. The SAG confirmed it did not object to reinstatement provided three conditions were met: adherence to all applicable policies including season ticket terms; agreement that members comply with safety and security operations; and acceptance that match-by-match reports will be submitted to the SAG for as long as deemed necessary.
Celtic communicated these terms to the Green Brigade, who responded positively with unconditional acceptance. Interim chairman Brian Wilson welcomed the resolution, stating: “I am pleased we have reached this point where suspensions can be lifted with the agreement of Glasgow City Council Safety Advisory Group on terms which apply to supporters throughout the stadium. On that basis, a full and united Celtic Park can get behind the team at this crucial point in the season.”
Sutton has been a vocal critic of Celtic throughout a difficult campaign, making his optimistic prediction notable. The champions trail league leaders Hearts by three points with six matches remaining, including crucial home fixtures against both Hearts and Rangers during the post-split phase. The return of the Green Brigade adds an emotional dimension to the run-in as the club seeks to maintain its domestic dominance.
