‘TOTAL AND UTTER NONSENSE!’ Respected Scots Journo GOES NUCLEAR Over Shock £15m Rangers Transfer Lies

Nicolas Raskin remains at the center of transfer talk following a summer window that saw him stay put at Ibrox against widespread expectations. The 25-year-old Belgium international seemed poised to depart Glasgow after participating in the 2026 World Cup, yet no switch materialized before the deadline slammed shut. While manager Derek McInnes had initially prepared for life without the influential midfielder, the former Standard Liege talent has instead re-established himself as an indispensable pillar in the Light Blues setup.

Speculation surrounding Raskin’s long-term destination refuses to quiet down. Recent chatter has linked Premier League outfit Aston Villa with a fresh swoop for the midfielder, especially with his current contract entering its final twelve months at the conclusion of this campaign. Villa are reportedly monitoring his consistency in both Scottish Premiership action and international fixtures, knowing his contractual status could lower Rangers’ negotiating leverage.

Veteran Scottish journalist Mark Guidi swiftly poured cold water on those links during a broadcast on the Go Radio Football Show. Guidi questioned the logic of Unai Emery’s side circling back for Raskin now, arguing that if Villa genuinely viewed him as a target, they had ample resources to finalize the transfer months ago.

Guidi highlighted the financial reality of the situation, noting that a fee in the region of £15 million would represent pocket change for an established Premier League side with substantial transfer backing. Villa underwent major squad turnover during the summer, meaning a failure to sign Raskin points to a lack of genuine appetite rather than financial obstacles. In Guidi’s blunt assessment, continuing to link the Belgian playmaker with a switch to Villa Park amounts to little more than internet clickbait created by outlets looking for easy headlines.

Despite Guidi’s skepticism regarding Villa, Rangers understand that keeping Raskin over the long haul remains an uphill battle. If his current contract situation is not resolved, the Govan club will face intense pressure to sell rather than risk losing him on a free transfer down the road.

Finding an internal successor inside the current squad is far from straightforward. The Gers heavily reinforced their midfield options by securing Dan Neil, Tochi Chukwuani, Cammy Devlin, and Vanja Dragojevic. Neil has hit the ground running, striking up an effective tactical partnership with Raskin in the center of the pitch. Behind them, questions linger over who can step up.

Chukwuani boasts the athletic profile and defensive tenacity to match Raskin’s engine room output, but the young Danish midfielder has struggled to earn regular minutes under McInnes. Supporters have also caught only brief glimpses of Dragojevic since his arrival from Partizan Belgrade. Unless one of these prospects claims a regular starting role, Rangers will likely have to venture back into the transfer market to recruit a midfielder with Raskin’s leadership and tactical composure.
