Rangers Finalize U-Turn to Terminate Defender’s Contract

Rangers are on the verge of canceling the final year of John Souttar’s contract to facilitate a quick move to Greek side Aris Thessaloniki before their transfer deadline.

Transfer Breakdown

  • Target Club: Aris Thessaloniki
  • Deadline: Tuesday at 10:00 PM (Greek Transfer Window)
  • Contract Status: Final year mutual termination under agreement

After initially rejecting a request for a payout on the remaining deal, Rangers management reversed their stance to prevent the transfer from collapsing. The Scottish international, who has accumulated over 100 appearances and secured a Scottish League Cup during his tenure at Ibrox, is expected to seal his departure within 24 hours.

The roster movement comes during a strong run of form under manager Derek McInnes. Following an initial setback in the Europa League qualifiers, McInnes has stabilized the club with five straight victories across all competitions, conceding just a single goal along the way. Highlighting this streak was a dominant 3-0 victory against Celtic in the first Old Firm derby of the season, followed by another 3-0 win to secure a place in the Scottish League Cup semifinals. Resolving the lingering transfer situation allows the squad to keep full focus on their domestic title chase.
