Alan Rough commended Cyriel Dessers’ impressive goal-scoring performance this season and drew comparisons with Celtic’s Kyogo Furuhashi. Dessers, who now has 19 goals to his name in all competitions after netting both goals in Rangers’ victory over Hearts in the Scottish Cup semi-final, has faced criticism for missing clear-cut chances throughout the season. However, Rough, a former Scotland goalkeeper, highlighted Dessers’ superior goal tally in comparison to Kyogo’s 16 goals for Celtic.

During an appearance on the PLZ Soccer Football Show, Rough acknowledged Dessers’ knack for missing chances but emphasized the significance of his 19-goal haul. “He’s one of these strikers that has chances and doesn’t take them, but 19 goals is a fair old return,” Rough noted. Regarding Dessers’ performance in the semi-final, Rough praised his confidence and class in scoring the first goal and backed him as the leading choice up front for Rangers.

Despite facing criticism from some Rangers fans and calls to pursue other strikers like Lawrence Shankland, Dessers has managed to garner an impressive goal tally this season. His composure in front of goal has been contrasted with the struggles of his teammates, including Fabio Silva. With an upcoming fixture against St. Mirren, Dessers seems set to retain his starting position in the Rangers squad following his goal-scoring exploits in the semi-final.
