Former Celtic goalkeeper Joe Hart has officially dismissed the possibility of a future in coaching, even after a recent stint assisting his hometown club. Since hanging up his boots in 2024, the 39-year-old has transitioned into a prominent media career, appearing as a regular pundit for TNT Sports, the BBC, and Match of the Day.
Despite his busy broadcasting schedule, Hart recently stepped onto the training pitch to serve as a temporary goalkeeping coach for Shrewsbury Town. He stepped in to support his former teammate Gavin Cowan and fellow club veteran Dave Edwards during a coaching vacancy.
During an appearance on the Golf Life podcast with Soccer AM’s Tubes, Hart clarified that the role was strictly a one-time favor. He explained that because the club lacked a specialist coach at the time, he offered his services for a single night to help out his friends.
When asked if the experience changed his mind about a long-term career on the sidelines, Hart was firm in his stance. While he maintains a deep passion for football and goalkeeping, he admitted that he is not suited for the professional demands of coaching.
Hart noted that his “all in” personality would likely lead to a 24/7 obsession with the job, which he believes would negatively impact his family life. He stated clearly that he has no desire to let that level of commitment dictate his lifestyle.
The former England international concluded by ruling out a future return to the dugout entirely. He emphasized that he understands the immense pressure and work required to succeed in coaching and simply does not have the interest to pursue it.
