Despite all that, the wolves managed a spectacular 4-1 victory in a manner that saw them escape the dreaded relegation zone.
Sunday proved to be a dramatic one as Wolves got themselves out of the relegation zone beating Fulham 4-1.
After victory in the match with Southampton before the break, Wanderers showed themselves from the best side in the match against Craven Cottage with the outstanding Matheus Cunha.
Cunha was the mastermind for the equalizer for Wolves, the assisting play for Joao Gomes’ goal, and also got a stunning second goal himself. To put the icing on the cake, Goncalo Guedes fired Wolves fourth goal in the event of the final whistle.
The win is very crucial to Wolves particularly bearing in mind that Fulham had a good start of the season, take for instance, a first half Iwobi goal.
This can prove a turning point for Wolves, both Alan Shearer and Gary Lineker commenting on a new – vibrant – leader in Gary O’Neil.
The win at Craven Cottage was a shock to many, as it was probably one of Wolves’ better performances since O’Neil took charge. Even without Bueno and Dawson, one had the likes of Mario Lemina alongside Toti Gomes to consider in the team.
Despite Wolves had some trouble, their playmaking in the last part of the field, with the focus on Cunha, made the difference. Shearer described Cunha as one of the best players of the season, and O’Neil, his return to the pitch on the Rest Is Football podcast.
Especially with the uncertainty on whether O’Neil will stay or go, the victory over Fulham was nothing sort of a morale boost. Some points went to Toti Gomes, Joao Gomes, and of course, the catalyst – Cunha, who was simply marvelous.
Otherwise this win may be viewed not only as the turning point for Wolverhampton in this stage of the selection to this top English league but also as a signal for future meetings in the competition. So equipped with reasonable fixtures and newfound confidence Wolves now have the chance to climb the table and continue their unbeaten run.
